My weekend was rather eventful. On Saturday, I woke up late and ran a few errands. I was lazy until about 12:30 when a friend called and said we were going kayaking on Town Lake. Awesome!
I had no idea how to kayak.
I was up for the challenge, so I ate lunch quickly and found my bathing suit, sunscreen and the worst pair of flip flops I own. Once everyone piled into my car, we drove downtown and started our little one hour adventure. I sprayed myself with tons of sunscreen but thought, “oh my legs will be fine” and just avoided that whole general area.
Worst. Mistake. Ever.
So we hopped into our kayaks, and it wasn’t rocket science or anything. I did confirm my theory that I have no upper body strength, however. Luckily there were two of us in the kayak, otherwise I doubt I would have gotten anywhere.
For about an hour, we had a great time, though drenched with water. It was a nice afternoon in Austin. So we started heading back and turned in the kayak. That’s when I realized that my legs looked a little pink, and I had been sitting in water for the past hour. So I ended up wandering around Town Lake in just my bathing suit — sorry, Austin.
It was early afternoon, so we all got cleaned up to go eat an early dinner at Waterloo. Then we saw Kung Fu Panda. Surprisingly, it was really good. I was impressed. But really, with Jack Black and Seth Rogan, how could it not be great – even if it is just their voices?
By the time the movie was over, however, I had already gone through half a tube of aloe gel. You see, while in the kayak, I sat cross-legged. So ONLY the insides of my legs are burnt to a crisp. There’s actually a line down the front of my legs, and the inside is maroon, the outside is my usual pasty color. So that’s fun.
On top of that, I had tickets to go see Eddie Izzard Sunday night. I wasn’t missing it for the world, so I waddled down to the Paramount Theater with aloe in hand, just in case.

The show was excellent. I’ve seen Eddie Izzard live once before in Vegas last November. I cried I laughed so hard. The man is amazing. I’ll try and find a Youtube of that and post it later. He said some things during this show that were similar to the Vegas show, but it was still awesome. I won’t go into too many details because I have a few friends who have tickets to see him soon.
Oh, and I got a t-shirt that says “Cake or Death?” with a tiny cupcake on it. It was exciting.
It ended up being a very nice weekend, despite the crazy sunburn and my lack of common sense to wear sunscreen.
